PPG spotlights metal coating innovations, design and durability at AIA Conference 2025

06/04/2025

PITTSBURGH, June 4, 2025 – PPG (NYSE:PPG) today announced that it will showcase its architectural metal coatings engineered to meet the highest standards in weathering, design and durability at the AIA Conference on Architecture and Design 2025 (AIA25), June 4-7 in Boston.

Visitors to the PPG exhibit at AIA25 (#1606) can meet one-on-one with experienced architectural specification professionals to learn about PPG CORAFLON® Platinum powder extrusion coatings and PPG DURANAR® liquid coil and extrusion coatings, two gold standard FGIA/AAMA 2605 systems for architectural metal applications. Representatives can also discuss PPG’s full architectural coatings portfolio with solutions for every performance specification and building application, including field-applied touch-ups and repairs.

In 2021, PPG took FEVE (fluoroethylene vinyl ether) technology to the next level with the launch of PPG Coraflon Platinum powder coating, a breakthrough formulation that offers 20% higher transfer efficiency, better one-coat corrosion protection and a broader gloss range (5-85) than standard FEVE powder coatings. This versatile powder coating for architectural extrusions represents a leap forward in design with the ability to create the timeless look of anodized metal and textures that mimic cement, stone, terracotta and other natural elements.

New data published in 2025 from third-party laboratory testing conducted in accordance with industry performance standards* demonstrated that PPG Coraflon Platinum powder had a minimal 6% loss in color over five years, exhibiting 20 times the color retention of competitor products in similar colors within the same period.

“We set out to develop a high-performance powder coating that was without equal in the industry, and we succeeded,” said Leah Hemminger, PPG sales manager, extrusion products, industrial coatings. “This testing confirmed that PPG Coraflon Platinum is in a class of its own for colorfastness and gloss retention.”

For architects, builders and specifiers seeking FGIA/AAMA 2605 performance in liquid formulations, the company’s flagship PPG Duranar liquid coil and extrusion coatings have set the standard for metal protection since their introduction in 1967. The coatings brought color stability and exceptional durability to architectural metal as one of the industry’s first PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) based systems.

PPG Duranar liquid coatings are available in an extensive library of rich and on-trend colors — including solids, micas and metallics— with options that feature advanced cooling and color-shifting pigments. This versatility gives builders and architects the freedom to design projects that stand out for their dynamic designs, energy efficiency and resilience. PPG Duranar coatings are featured on high profile projects like Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Lyrik Back Bay in Boston, Thirty75 Tech in Santa Clara and Hudson Yard in New York City.
