"We look forward to a continued partnership dedicated to improving the lives of women and children who use the services of Hope Gardens Family Center and beyond."

SYLMAR, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PPG (NYSE:PPG) today announced that it is the recipient of the Union Rescue Mission (URM) 2018 Heart of Transformation Award, which is given to the company that has made a life-changing impact for women and children living at URM’s Hope Gardens Family Center in Sylmar, California. Last October, more than 150 employee volunteers from PPG’s aerospace business completed a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES™ project to help revitalize the center’s 71-acre campus through the transformative power of paint and color.

PPG was recognized at URM’s 10th annual Hearts for Hope Gala on Feb. 16 alongside Wells Fargo and American actress and activist Angela Bassett.

“We chose to honor PPG with this year’s Heart of Transformation Award as a way to recognize the company’s overwhelming generosity and support of Hope Gardens through the Colorful Communities program,” said Reverend Andy Bales, CEO, Union Rescue Mission. “Not only did the PPG volunteers provide a cosmetic transformation to the facility, they also brought a transformation of attitude through the kindness and compassion they demonstrated to our families and staff. The efforts of PPG truly made for an overwhelmingly joyous day for all who were involved.”

URM is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving men, women, children and families experiencing homelessness. Established in 1891, it is the largest rescue mission of its kind in the United States and the oldest in Los Angeles. It provides a comprehensive array of emergency and long-term services, including food, shelter and clothing; medical and dental care; Christian recovery programs; transitional housing; legal assistance; and education, counseling and job training.

“PPG is honored to be recognized by the Union Rescue Mission in such a monumental way,” said Mark Hood, PPG plant manager, Sylmar. “We look forward to a continued partnership dedicated to improving the lives of women and children who use the services of Hope Gardens Family Center and beyond.”
