PPG completes COLORFUL COMMUNITIES project at Casa de Nazaré children’s shelter in Jundiaí, Brazil

"Joining efforts with PPG showed that if we combine forces, we can do much more."

SUMARÉ, São Paulo, Brazil, June 10, 2019 – PPG (NYSE: PPG) today announced the completion of a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® project in Jundiaí, São Paulo, Brazil, that helped revitalize the Casa de Nazaré children’s shelter. The project brought together approximately 30 PPG volunteers, who spent a day revitalizing the facility for the 40 resident children who are at personal or social risk due to being orphaned, neglected, abandoned or mistreated.

PPG provided around 210 gallons (800 liters) of RENNER® paint and all painting materials for the project.

The Colorful Communities program provides PPG volunteers and products to bring color and vitality to communities where the company operates around the world, such as in nearby Sumaré, where PPG has a manufacturing facility, an administrative office and a customer application center.

Founded in 2002, Casa de Nazaré seeks to reestablish family bonds for the children in its care while also developing the skills necessary to live an independent life as an adult should it not be possible to return to their families.

“We want the children to live in a cozy, beautiful and joyful space, and this project helped bring color and happiness to their world,” said Maria Aparecida da Silva, coordinator, Casa de Nazaré. “Without a doubt, it is going to inspire positive change.”

More than 40 volunteers from the community and PPG customer Tubex joined the PPG volunteers to paint the interior walls of the five buildings that house the children in a color palette that included orange, green and yellow hues. These colors were chosen to create warm and cheerful spaces for the children.

“We were introduced to Casa de Nazaré by our customer Tubex, which has been a supporter of the organization,” said Márcio Grossmann, PPG general manager, Latin America South. “We were pleased to join Tubex and members of the community to make a positive impact and bring more color into the lives of the people who live and work at the shelter.”

“Tubex is working hard on the development of its purpose in society, and this initiative contributed significantly to that effort,” said Bruno Serra, director of operations, Tubex. “Joining efforts with PPG showed that if we combine forces, we can do much more.”

This is the eighth Colorful Communities project in Brazil since the program’s launch in 2015 and the first project in 2019. In Sumaré, Colorful Communities projects have helped revitalize the Municipal Early Child Education School Alfredo Castro Donaire, the Volcano Project and the Wadih Jorge Maluf School. The Centro de Integração da Criança Especial (Center for the Integration of the Special Children), Instituto do Câncer Infantil (Child Cancer Institute) and the Public School José Maurício in Porto Alegre were also recipients of Colorful Communities projects. In São José dos Pinhais, Paraná, the Lourdes Bonin School gained more color and brightness through the initiative.

The Colorful Communities program, PPG’s signature initiative for supporting communities, aims to protect and beautify the neighborhoods where PPG operates around the world. Through the Colorful Communities program, PPG’s committed volunteers contribute their time and PPG paint products to help transform community assets – from painting classrooms, to bringing color to a maternity ward and redesigning a playground. Since 2015, PPG has completed more than 200 Colorful Communities projects, impacting more than 5.2 million people in 30 countries.
