PPG’s Sylmar plant to join S.T.R.E.A.M. Kids Expo for National Manufacturing Day

SYLMAR, Calif., Oct. 4, 2019 – PPG (NYSE: PPG) announced that its Sylmar, Calif. plant employees will participate in the S.T.R.E.A.M. (science, technology, reading, engineering, arts and manufacturing) Kids Expo event at the College of the Canyons in Valencia, Calif.

The event is being held to mark National Manufacturing Day, organized by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), which aims to address labor opportunities, connect with future generations of manufacturers and ensure success of the manufacturing industry.

“The robust and exciting career possibilities offered by the manufacturing industry continue to grow,” said Mark Hood, PPG plant manager, Sylmar. “We’re thrilled to expose students, and potential future PPG candidates, to the important and vast career paths that manufacturing has to offer.”

The S.T.R.E.A.M. Kids Expo offers students an opportunity to explore S.T.R.E.A.M.-based activities and exhibits from industry experts, schools and organizations. PPG employees will attend and offer information about manufacturing to approximately 500 students. The students will participate in different learning stations and speak with PPG employees about career opportunities in manufacturing.

PPG’s Sylmar facility employs approximately 485 people and produces transparencies for a variety of aircrafts around the world. The Sylmar facility supports a global customer base delivering aircraft transparencies for the commercial, general aviation and military markets.  Multiple job functions, including production, operations, engineering, chemist, scientist, maintenance and tooling, collaborate daily to make PPG the world’s leading provider of aircraft transparencies.
