The project brought together nearly 50 PPG volunteers to paint the school’s exterior walls. PPG provided more than $56,000 (approximately RMB 380,000) in products and services to assist with the project, including 365 gallons (1,382 liters) of SEIGNEURIE™ exterior paint.

The Colorful Communities program provides PPG volunteers and products along with financial contributions to bring color and vitality to communities where the company operates around the world, such as in Tianjin, where PPG has a production facility and global coatings innovation center.

Through the global New Paint for a New Start initiative, PPG employees are volunteering their time throughout July and August to transform more than 25 schools and serve local students. Using PPG paint products and color expertise, each project aims to create engaging spaces for students to learn and grow.

Founded in 1994, TEDA No.1 Kindergarten serves nearly 380 students in 12 classrooms. The school’s exterior walls, which were last painted in 2014, were fading, peeling and cracking due to weathering.

Most of the New Paint for a New Start projects worldwide use a single global color palette that PPG color experts specifically selected to elevate physical classroom environments. At TEDA No.1 Kindergarten, volunteers used a color palette of Forsythia Blossom, Razzberries, Everglade Mist, and Fall Leaf for the exterior walls around a theme of “happy colorful castle.”

Lu Yuan, headmaster of TEDA No.1 Kindergarten (second from left) and Cathy Yan, PPG general manager, Corporate and Government Affairs, Asia Pacific (third from right), launched a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® project that transformed the school’s exterior.

“We are very grateful to PPG for helping beautify our space,” said Lu Yuan, headmaster of TEDA No.1 Kindergarten. “The project created a gorgeous building, and our students and educators really like the fun and interesting colors and patterns that PPG chose for us. The new environment provides us with an improved learning experience, allowing our children to grow in a happier space.”

“The education and growth of our children is important to PPG and the communities where we operate,” said Cathy Yan, PPG general manager, Corporate and Government Affairs, Asia Pacific. “Through the New Paint for a New Start initiative, we are mobilizing nearly a thousand PPG employees around the world to renovate schools to help students feel excited, supported and ready to learn when they return. We are pleased that TEDA No.1 Kindergarten has received a bright refresh as part of the initiative.”
