PORTO, Portugal, March 31, 2023 – PPG (NYSE:PPG) today announced the completion of a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® project to help revitalize Obra ABC, a residential school for underprivileged children and young people in Porto, Portugal.

PPG employees and customers carried out a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® project to help revitalize Obra ABC, a residential school for underprivileged children and young people in Porto, Portugal.

PPG employees and customers carried out a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® project to help revitalize Obra ABC, a residential school for underprivileged children and young people in Porto, Portugal.

The project brought together more than 35 volunteers, consisting of employees and customers of PPG, who worked together to paint the school’s living rooms and gymnasium. They worked in collaboration with the artist Nuno Palhas, who created a series of murals based on concepts drawn by the children.

PPG provided funding of $26,800 (22,000 euros) for the project, including 250 liters of DYRUP®, BONDEX® and CORROSTOP® paints by PPG that were used to create a green color scheme. The company also provided a television and sofa for one of the living rooms, kitchen utensils, and backpacks for all the students.

Obra ABC helps children and young people at risk from ages 12 to 21, and currently has around 30 residents. It aims to create a family environment to make them feel integrated and prepare them for the future.

“PPG had a full involvement with us in this project,” said Rita Sousa, director of Obra ABC. “The team came to visit and to understand first what our needs are. This really has made the difference.”

“The Colorful Communities program has the mission to make a difference in our communities,” said Cláudia Carvalho, PPG marketing manager, Portugal, Architectural Coatings. “We encourage collaborative work and the spirit of help to give new life to institutions, and using our products we were able to beautify and create very welcoming environments – as was the case at Obra ABC.”
